There’s nothing like a plot twist to get people’s attention, and this 50-second video featuring former Canucks player Trevor Linden certainly does that.
The video revealing the stunning statistics on intimate partner violence and brain injury was released today by the YWCA Metro Vancouver as part of its work to raise awareness of this significant but virtually invisible issue.
Board Voice has partnered with The Cridge Centre for the Family for the last two years to engage in advocacy around the staggeringly high rates of brain injury among survivors of intimate partner violence. As the YWCA video notes, for every NHL player who suffers a concussion while playing, some 7,000 Canadian women incur one at the hands of their intimate partners.
Here’s the YWCA news release on this campaign. Learn more about intimate partner violence and brain injury (IPV-BI) at Board Voice’s fact-packed page on IPV-BI, or on The Cridge Centre’s own website.
The Cridge Centre is one of the only community agencies in Canada providing a specialty dual stream of support to women who have experienced IPV-BI. That work has been made possible through private donations.
