Federal politics: Cabinet, shadow cabinet & critics

The federal government and the federal Conservative Party have now announced their respective cabinet and shadow cabinet.

Board Voice will be reaching out to the leaders and Opposition critics of the key social ministries with letters of introduction – we want to ensure federal MPs know about the non-profit community social services sector as well as the work of Board Voice and our fabulous member organizations! We’ll share cabinet ministers’ mandate letters as soon as they’re available on the government’s website.

Here’s the list of federal cabinet ministers, with links to their individual profiles. There are four MPs from BC in cabinet, all from the Metro Vancouver area. They are:

  • Joyce Murray, Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard
  • Carla Qualtrough, Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Disability Inclusion
  • Harjit Sajjan, Minister of International Development and Minister responsible for the Pacific Economic Development Agency of Canada
  • Jonathan Wilkinson, Minister of Natural Resources

Conservative and Official Opposition leader Erin O’Toole announced his shadow cabinet this month as well.

The shadow cabinet includes Prince George-Peace River-Northern Rockies MP Bob Zimmer as Shadow Minister for Northern Affairs and Arctic Sovereignty; Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency, as well as Kelowna-Lake Country MP Tracy Gray, Shadow Minister for Small Business Recovery and Growth.

And here are the New Democrat Party critics under leader and Burnaby South MP Jagmeet Singh. The NDP lineup includes a whopping 13 MPs from BC ridings.
