BC’s new government was sworn in last week. Premier John Horgan issued mandate letters to his ministers this week. Board Voice is working hard on the There is a Better Way: A BC Framework for Wellbeing project and we hope to meet with the new ministers soon to discuss a social policy framework for the province. Many of the policy areas, that the BC NDP intend to address, can be covered in a coordinated fashion through a framework. Issues ranging from homelessness, the opioid crisis, and the treatment of children in care to education, health care and homes for seniors – policy based on the social determinants of health, with built in accountability structures, in a social policy framework, will help us to achieve progress on these issues.
