Change

change-architect-sign1-2Trevor Hancock shares a timely metaphor regarding change. Over the past couple of years, people have seen a lot of information on this web site about a vision of a BC in which all British Columbians experience a high quality of life and are able to contribute to the best of their abilities. To get there, as Dr. Hancock points out, there needs to be a process.

Each community social benefit organizations was created to change a condition in our communities – food security, how we care for our children, families, seniors, domestic violence, substance abuse, immigrant and settlement services, among a few. The voyage for most has seen elements like those described by Dr. Hancock. As board directors of community benefit organizations, we are committed to the mission of our organizations. “Strong board leadership is not just about checks and balances; it is about creating the circumstances that will allow our missions to be achieved. That ensures progress can be made. That enables each of us to translate our shared beliefs into action” (Stand for Your Mission).

A process that brings together community social benefit organizations, local and provincial governments, Aboriginal communities, businesses, service organizations and professional associations to develop a common set of shared values and beliefs that will provide the basis for how vital social services are delivered to British Columbians is a much needed endeavor.
As Dr, Hancock points out  “the process of getting from here to there is never a simple one”. As the process for There is a Better Way: A BC Framework for Wellbeing is unrolled, I encourage you to bring your voice forward to help get from here to there – a BC in which all British Columbians experience a high quality of life and are able to contribute to the best of their abilities.
