Dr. Trevor Hancock will be familiar to many of our members. In a recent column in the Times Colonist, he discusses the very real consequences of poverty to public health. Dr. Hancock notes that while close to 10% of the population of BC lives in poverty (along with 1 in 5 children) BC is the only province without a poverty reduction plan. An individual working full time, making the minimum wage is not enough to raise someone out of poverty.
