Our Place Model

The ‘Our Place’ model is “place-based, which means programs and services are holistic in nature and tailored to meet the unique needs of the neighbourhoods being served.” The coalition grew out of an almost tragic situation where authorities prevented a suicide pact of “24 mainly Indigenous youth aged 13 to 15.” Using the idea of collective impact, the program saw service providers brought together to provide services with ultimate accountability to the service users. The ‘Our Place’ model has been endorsed by the Representative for Children and Youth, City of Vancouver and others.

Collective impact is one of the concepts that could form part of a framework for well-being or a social policy framework. Having a plan or framework, rooted in evidence and the social determinants of health, will ultimately serve British Columbians better and provide stronger outcomes.
