Ms. Carter is a long-term board member and President of the Board of Greater Vancouver Community Social Services. She has successfully guided that Society through significant growth and change. Ms. Carter has over 30 years experience in the social services and educational sectors, and has worked at Langara College since 1982 as an Instructor and Chair of the Social Work Department. She is also President of the Langara Faculty Association.
In conjunction with her duties at Langara College, Ms. Carter has continued work in other social service areas including child welfare, education and administrative positions with various government organizations and commissions including the Ministry of Children and Families; Gove Commission of Inquiry into Child Protection; Board of Registration for Social Workers; Open Learning Agency; and Family Services of Vancouver.
Ms. Carter’s volunteer background includes appointments as Chairperson, BC Benefits Tribunals; Chairperson, Vocational, Rehabilitation and Disabled Persons Appeals; and Member, Panel Roster of Complaints Division, Children’s Commission.
Ms. Carter’s education includes a BA from the University of Wisconsin, MSW from the University of British Columbia and post graduate studies in health policy from the London School of Economics.
